About me

Hiking on the way to the world’s biggest mountain; Everest.

No this is not a Meatloaf fan site (although I do love 80s rock). I’m Katherine; A 30+ female adventurer, solo traveler, adrenaline junkie and skateboard owner. In September 2017 I decided to quit the rat race, leaving the pressures of city living behind to hit the open road.

Having never travelled alone before the age of 30, I’ve now been to Poland, Portugal, Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand and am currently adventuring around Latin America as an independent woman of the world.

Why the time was right to get the hell out

Firstly, for years I was wilting under the confines of London city; the 9-5 corporate treadmill, the constant house changes forced upon you as a renter, the lack of real green space and always being surrounded by some 9million co-inhabitants etc etc. Secondly, I sadly split after a seriously long term and very special relationship which left me feeling utterly lost. As a result I found myself spiralling into bit of a black hole with no real direction.

I needed a big change to reset my senses and find my happy place again, and I knew that the usual tactic of getting drunk and head banging wasn’t going to cut it.

I’d always loved to travel and had a bucketlist that was starting to look like a gap year travel brochure, so I thought if I am going to “find myself” I may as well do it somewhere awesome.

So this is my escape TO the real world. To find out what it’s all about, to find out what I’m about and to share these experiences with you. I hope this blog can inspire others to realise;

  • Travelling is the best medicine
  • It’s ok to travel solo (in fact its awesome)
  • Everyone has their own path in life and some of us have many

I hope you’ll join me on the journey – I guarantee it will be one hell of a ride.

Think it will inspire so many and give a great onsite what can be done.
Hopefully it will lead you to find what you want to do and where you want to do it. Enjoy

  2. Amazing! Travelling is awesome, I went solo when I was 18 and it was the best thing I’ve ever done. It changed everything for me! Good luck and I’ll keep an eye out online! 🙂 xx

  3. Hi Katherine,
Couldn’t agree with you more – my girl friend and I took a year out to travel to similar places as you are before I joined City and Guilds. Good on you for taking the plunge on your own.
I still look back on the experiences and lessons learned from travelling. I can honestly say it’s the best thing I/we have ever done.
A personal favourite of mine was trekking in the hills of Sapa, Vietnam.
Enjoy the rest of your trip ?
